64-bit only works with 64-bit operating systems
I’m not talking about some trivial loophole. I’m talking about Microsoft creating a new boot sector and dumping a different driver into the CD, restricting you to a new (Windows 8) install. You’d need to have a Windows 8 DVD to fix that.
If you want to use as a server, the version of Windows that runs this is only licensed to run Windows 7; if you are going to run Ubuntu, CentOS, or some other non-Windows operating system, you could be violating the OS terms.
As for the Ultimate version, it’s the most expensive version (there’s even a version called “Ultimate” for businesses, but it’s a physically compact and thus expensive DVD, not a download). There is no point to it: it’s a version of Windows meant to run on the “least expensive, most power-hungry” hardware available.
Yes, it’s “Ultimate” for home users, but why would I recommend anyone go into debt just to have an OS that is wholly unnecessary?
For this reason alone, I don’t recommend it, and I wouldn’t recommend a $200 upgrade to any version of Windows, whether Home or Pro.
