With the new initiative, Taco Bell expects to see substantial positive benefits in guest satisfaction, employee productivity and reduced turnover as a result of increased employee trust in the company, and a healthier work environment overall. Throughout the fast food industry, only small to mid-size chains have had paid sick days, and often with limited employee experience. By setting paid sick leave policies as a direct benefit for all restaurant employees, Taco Bell is helping to support its frontline workers and give them the time they need to take care of themselves when they need it. Restaurants are seeing the highest rates of patient infections, employee illness and turnover in the food service industry, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. Paid sick leave creates greater employee trust and can prevent outbreaks of illness, infectious disease and food contamination that are costly to the restaurant business and to the customer. Taco Bell has also made substantial investments in bringing health and wellness products to its restaurant workers through its partnership with BIOVIA Medical to provide on-site optometry care for its U.S. locations.
